Albany Senior High School
Albany Senior High School is a very different kind of school - with no fixed teaching spaces, flexible scheduling with the students and a required day in the community, the school seeks to help students make the transition into higher education more easily. Traditional classrooms just don't fit this new approach.
The school was designed to be open plan, to offer flexible spaces as well as the traditional assembly auditorium and gymnasium.
The project had a very tight deadline - a 16 month construction programme to deliver 20,000m² of building. It required a very close collaboration between parties - architect, builder, services consultant and the other members of the design team.
Further, collaboration was required to coordinate and deliver the architectural concept which involved an exposed structure with no suspended ceiling. We incorporated details that worked structurally as well as achieving the aesthetic demands.
