ANZ Tower

The ANZ Tower represents a milestone in New Zealand engineering - with 42 levels it was the tallest building in New Zealand at the time of construction.  It currently remains the second tallest commercial office building in the country.

The seismic design of the ANZ Tower was optimized using special non linear time history analyses.  This performance based design approach enabled the appropriate levels of public safety to be maintained, whilst refining the reinforcing in the perimeter frame.

The perimeter reinforced concrete frames act like a tube, providing the earthquake resistance for the building.

In conjunction with the contractor Hawkins Construction, Holmes developed a proprietary pre-cast system, which enabled a four day floor construction cycle for the tower. This included a special pre-stressed double tee flooring system, achieving long spans for a reduced depth, to optimize floor to ceiling height.
