Auckland Art Gallery

The Auckland Art Gallery inhabits an enviable position in Auckland. The bequest of 15 modern works of art by Julian and Josie Robertson will doubtless add to the lustre of this exciting new exhibition space. The project to seismically retrofit and refurbish the existing (ca 1818 and 1916) heritage buildings as well as add new space to the complex has been completed.

The new space includes three galleries and two new roof level sculpture terraces, and the addition of a new 3-storey high glass north atrium structure with a tension rod façade system and "tree-like" canopies that define and cover the entry forecourt, atrium and gallery areas.

Re-opened in 2011, the Auckland Art Gallery has stunned Aucklanders and visitors alike with its assured facade, perfectly aligning the old with the new.

  • Auckland Art Gallery: A beautiful renovation
  • Auckland Art Gallery: The timber canopy provides a stunning entry to the new space, but is also a statement on sustainability.
  • Auckland Art Gallery: Retaining all the charm of the past, strengthened for the future.
  • Auckland Art Gallery: The new space brings lustre to the street, and to the adjacent former Wellesley Gallery.
  • Auckland Art Gallery: The existing buildings, stronger and brighter, remain an Auckland landmark.
