Auckland Regional Women's Correctional Facility
Our initial involvement in this project was to document a 150 bed prison. That grew to 286 beds and 38 separate buildings, yet we maintained the original time frame of 2 years.
Located on a disused quarry, the prison is spread out over 47 hectares, catering to 286 inmates and 159 staff.
Local Iwi were involved in the design to ensure the development was in harmony with the overall shoreline.
This was the first purpose-built women's prison in New Zealand. The project was completed in 2006 and was the recipient of a Property Council of New Zealand Award of Merit.
