Bayfair Shopping Centre
Winner of the 2003 New Zealand Property Council Supreme Award, this renovation doubled the size of the existing 1990s mall and added a 1,000 space, multilevel carpark and a Farmers store.
This project was delivered in three main stages. The first stage was a new carpark constructed of large precast concrete components. This saved build time and maximised the carpark's use by minimising the number of columns required.
The second stage was a two level Farmers store of standard concrete structure. This became the model for future two level Farmers' stores.
The final stage was the reconfiguration of the existing mall, while keeping it open for normal trading. This included inserting a new serpentine mall precinct through the existing 1990s building. Structural steel was chosen to deal with the complicated geometry and fit with the existing construction.
