Christchurch Women's Hospital

This award-winning, 10 level state-of-the-art building replaced the existing dated facility which had been in use for over 50 years. The new facility includes over 20,000m2 of floor space.

The new Women's Hospital is integrally linked to the existing central hospital facilities to provide effective interaction with the other main clinical and healthcare facilities.

The hospital is a dedicated essential services facility providing ongoing recovery services immediately following a major natural disaster. The building has therefore been designed to withstand Christchurch's largest predictable earthquake. The Christchurch Women's Hospital is unique in that it is the first and only building in the South Island which is base isolated. The project won the inaugural New Zealand Engineering Excellence Award.
