The guides
are in Adobe Acrobat © format, in both A4 and USletter size.
The full guidelines
are large documents. You will need winzip or similiar to extract
them. To check content without downloading the entire file, view
smaller files (approximately 100 kb) containing the Table of Contents

Base Isolation
Design Guidelines (2.8 Mb)
Design of base
isolation systems for bridges and buildings. Includes chapters on
the principles of base isolation; implementation issues for buildings
and bridges; seismic input; performance and engineering properties
of different types of seismic isolation systems; design of the isolators;
connection design and structural design. Examples of isolation system
design for buildings, bridges and industrial equipment plus a summary
of actual earthquake performance of seismic isolated structures
and bibliography. Lead rubber bearings, high damping rubber bearings,
sliding bearings and the Friction Pendulum System©.

Damper Design
Guidelines (1.6 Mb)
Design of in-structure
dampers and energy dissipators for buildings. Includes chapters
on the principles of in-structure damping; theoretical damper properties;
damping decay; time history results; practical device properties;
design procedures and bibliography. Hysteretic, friction, viscous
and visco-elastic dampers.

Performance
Based Analysis Guidelines (4.6 Mb)
A Users Manual
for Performance Based Design concepts for the evaluation and rehabilitation
of existing buildings. Based on NZNSEE and FEMA-273 / FEMA-356 requirements.
Covers both the NSP (nonlinear pushover) and NDP (nonlinear time
history) methods. Chapters include concepts of performance based
design; earthquake input; modeling techniques; material and element
models for degrading strength and degrading stiffness frame and
wall elements; model preparation, nonlinear analysis and results
processing using Holmes Consulting Group software; acceptance criteria;
evaluation of response; project list and bibliography.
The details
of the analysis are specific to Holmes Consulting Group proprietary
software but other sections provide general concepts for performing
NSP and NDP evaluations of existing structures.
