History

In 1956 Lyall Holmes finally got around to opening an office in Christchurch. Why finally? Because he had been working on increasingly important projects while still at university studying.

Lyall's combination of impatience, brilliance and passion for structural engineering became part and parcel of a true architectural revolution in Christchurch. He looked relentlessly overseas for the new, the technically advanced, and for ways to bring value to our clients in New Zealand and around the world.

Some of our projects during the early years include the initial construction of Christchurch Airport, the Ballantynes and Government Life buildings in Christchurch, the Canterbury Jockey Club and in Wellington, Jellicoe Towers.

Later projects included Christchurch Town Hall, and the New Zealand embassies in Washington DC, US and New Delhi, India.
