Justice

Working in the Justice area means several things - when designing a prison structure, it's imperative to consider security for guards and inhabitants alike. This is accomplished by thinking through the experience of a structure and addressing those security concerns step by step.

  • Auckland Women's Correctional Institute: This project entailed the transformation of a disused quarry into 38 separate buildings over 47 hectares.
  • As part of a larger development, the Post Office Precinct, the Queenstown Courthouse has contributed to the burgeoning town life.
  • Supreme Court: The ovoid shaped main courtroom is a spectacular feature at the heart of the new building, clad in copper externally and with timber interior panelling.
  • Youth Justice North: The smaller campus-style design allows counselors to work more intensively with the teens, mitigating the chance of re-offending.
  • The project to accommodate the new Supreme Court of New Zealand combined the construction of a contemporary new Supreme Court building with the careful restoration of the existing heritage Old High Court Building.
