Sustainability

In our view, sustainable design means reducing the impact on our environment by:

Using less material, using recycled materials and retrofitting buildings for new uses.

Designing structures for adaptability.

Creating healthy and comfortable spaces to live, work and play.

Reducing building energy use by integrating structure with building systems.

Minimising the amount of waste produced by buildings.

Our structural engineers think about these points as a matter of course when designing buildings.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to supporting a 'green team' within the organisation to ensure that the latest information and research is available to all.

We also also participate in the New Zealand Green Building Council as members, have accredited Green Star staff, and contributed to the first two Green Building Summits in New Zealand.

  • Te Rere Hau Windfarm: Windfarms generate power with minimal disruption to the natural environment.
  • The Deloitte Centre occupies a full central city block in downtown Auckland.
  • Kakariki House: The building is Green Star rated - and is a great example of rehabilition.
  • Carlaw Park: The 'H' structure of the commercial development enables sunlight throughout the day.
  • Mangamahu Bridge: Clever design saves both material and costs
