Westpac Stadium - Wellington

The Westpac Stadium in Wellington is a 34,500 seat stadium and a single-bowl multi-purpose facility which includes a raised concourse and carparking facilities with a roof structure covering approximately 60% of the seating.

Our design work involved significant wind tunnel testing of the roof structure and development of a special roof edge treatments to control wind actions and forces. Wellington is subject to high winds.

This was one of the largest precast concrete construction projects in the country. The project pioneered the large scale use of lightweight concrete. Westpac Stadium won the ACENZ Gold Medal award, the IPENZ Supreme Building Award, Property Council New Zealand and NZIA Award.

  • The Hurricanes call the Westpac Trust Stadium home.
  • Westpac Trust Stadium: Special partially prestressed main bleacher frames were developed for this project.
  • The Westpac Trust Stadium is instantly recognisable due to its continuous circular stand.
  • The 35,000 seat Westpac Trust Stadium is perfect for fans of cricket, rugby and football because there are no obstructed views.
  • Westpac Trust Stadium: The roof makes use of an aerofoil vane on the leading edge to reduce wind forces.
